There are three dates of upcoming meetings and events that I wanted to make sure you are aware of in February.
- The Friends of Copley Square, a non-profit organization that provides funding to assist the City of Boston with the preservation, maintenance, and beautification of the Copley Square, invites you to the second annual Mardi Gras Celebration on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. The event will be held at The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel. Tickets are $300 per couple, which includes two tickets to the event, as well as accommodations on February 17 donated by The Copley Square Hotel, The Fairmont Copley Plaza Hotel and The Lenox Hotel. Services for Mayor Kevin H. White
The City of Boston Transportation Department is advising drivers that additional traffic and parking restrictions will be in place on local streets on Tuesday, January 31, and Wednesday, February 1, 2012 due to memorial services taking place for former Boston Mayor Kevin H. White.
A public viewing will be held at the Parkman House, 33 Beacon Street, Beacon Hill on Tuesday. On Wednesday, a procession through Downtown streets will proceed a funeral mass at Saint Cecilia’s Church on Belvidere Street in the Back Bay. This will be followed by a public reception at the main branch of the Boston Public Library on Boylston Street in the Back Bay.

UPDATE! Newbury Street Water Main Replacement Project!

We wanted to update you on the progress of the Newbury Street Water Main Replacement Project.
The contractor’s anticipated completion date for the work between Gloucester Street and Fairfield Street is November 18, 2011.
In the past two days, Verizon and National Grid have had to implement construction in the Gloucester to Fairfield block. BWSC’s contractor discovered an unmarked abandoned gas service in front of 257 Newbury Street and National Grid mobilized a crew to disconnect the service. National Grid finished the work on November 2. Verizon has been relocating a duct bank that is in conflict with BWSC’s new water main between 257 and 261 Newbury Street. It is anticipated that Verizon’s work will be complete today.

Hurricane Irene

The National Weather Service has issued a hurricane watch for coastal Massachusetts, including the City of Boston. A hurricane watch means that hurricane conditions are possible within the next 48 hours. In addition, a flood watch has been issued and will be in effect beginning Saturday evening and into Sunday night.
The City urges individuals and businesses to closely monitor this storm and complete any preparations for its potential impact by Saturday evening. Tips on how best to prepare can be found on the City’s website at cityofboston.gov or by calling the Mayor’s 24-hour Hotline at 617-635-4500.
